Combine spatially separate objects into one

It would be very useful to be able to combine (not group) different, spatially separate objects—mainly solids—into a single object so they can be moved, rotated, etc., as one.
Think, for example, of 12 or 60 dots on a clock face or bolts arranged around a flange.
This would reduce the total number of objects, provide a cleaner overview and a simpler workflow. I really miss this feature in Plasticity.
Of course, this feature should be complemented by an “explode” command to separate the combined object back into its original components.

There is a described functionality, which I believe is a bug. I discovered it unintentionally and was confused that plasticity didn't do what I needed.
Current workaround for your case:
- Draw a solid covering all needed objects so it will have a contact point with all of them.
- Combine all objects with a solid (Q-Q).
- Extrude the solid completely empty, leaving only your objects. This will result in a single solid in a list which consist all your objects.
Let me know if you need a video.

Oleksii Storozhenko Indeed that works :) That is good news, showing it is possible in some way. Unjoin works as "explode". Of course a less complicated way would be nice :)
