This would be a game changer for this already incredible piece of software, IMO. To add some detail, I can see this working in a few different ways:
- inside a project, being able to create instance-able objects (similar to when you group items currently) for things like common hardware used throughout. This seems like the most simple approach as it doesn't create a hierarchy between separate projects
- when importing another project file into the next one, having it remain a consolidated object which can be used any number of times as a bundled/single object instance (still an improvement over what happens now, but not quite ideal yet)
- when importing a plasticity file for inclusion in another project, including it as a REFERENCE to the previous file, rather than embedding it as a separate (and now potentially diverging) copy, WITH the option to later refresh this embedded reference, if/when the referenced file is changed. This would be a MAJOR improvement and time saver.

Instances would enable so much better organization. Especially when coupled with the ability to reference an instance from another file on disk. I really like the approach of Blender and Rhinoceros in this regard.

This! It's one of the biggest missing features IMO.

100%. Personally I can't use it for what I need without them.

Having an instances together with "custom pivot" feature and being able to keep it linked to Blender via Blender bridge would bring creating animated mechanical models to whole another level.
That would be a game changer for many, I believe!

Lack of them renders Plasticity hard to use for technical projects with hundreds of screws for a very basic example. We managed to finish and manufacture a technical prototype, it was fun and testing new ideas is much faster in Plasticity than in SW or other CAD, but next job I will model elsewhere for the sole reason of not having clones in Plasticity. It's just too painful to replace all parts after a small change. Perhaps this is the price of "artistic approach", artistic modeling calls for stuff like lattice deformers which for simple machine design is even not remotely neccesary. Onshape would be a great companion for Plasticity if only it was not so absurdly overpriced.

Instances would save a HUGE amount of disc space and being able to just edit/fix one copy of an item would be SUCH a time saver.

Yes. Big missing feature.
