Trackball style orbiting
in progress
PepeChan
I bought plasticity studio, spent the money and found out it is 90% unusable because of this. How can someone from CAD get to use turntable? It is so unintuitive that my mind rejects it wholly... how come Plasticity? C'mon... no one expects CAD users to do CAD without full 3D range of motion. It is just not realistic.

PepeChan My thoughts exactly, I'm just waiting to get more options like the style Onshape and others have.

I'm so glad this is ongoing! I held off on buy Plasticity and also wasted my trial because the camera was a deal breaker for me.

really dislike the way it currently is, really looking forward to the trackball style implementation, it just feels odd when switching from other 3D software that supports it

in eg. Rhino its possible to assign middle mouse key to a command which I set to _ZS which means zoom selected, so the selected object becomes center point of the space mouse.

Not sure if you consider it related, but I want a "reset view" to set the view back to sane defaults. When I'm using SpaceMouse (and sometimes mouse) I can "lose" the objects and orientation -- I want a "view 0,0,0" button. (not just for spaceball/trackball, ideally in from any time from ui)UI

Bruce M If you lose the object try hitting the backslash key'/'. 0,0 could be front. back, top, bottom or other view so the coordinated don't mean much on their own. Personally I use '1' then '/' to centre my model onscreen. Reorientation of a model would seem to be a bit harder to handle as the program has no idea of how it should be aligned, but I understand your frustrations.

Please make this an option that can be toggled (like Blender). I'm still waiting (ever patiently) on LightWave modeller to receive plasticity and Blender's default orbit/turntable rotations.

so that it's possible to align view angle in such a way that Z isn't always pointing up

This is very useful feature. Used it in Modo and now in Blender. But, dear developers, if you're going to add it, please implement it as a switcher. This way we can quickly choose the right mode

The free object rotation always stops in the Z+ or Z- direction.
If I am modeling somewhere and want to continue rotation to look behind the part, this is blocked in Z. I would wish that the rotation in Z would not stop and simply continue to rotate.
